The Inspiring Journey of Dr. Kenneth Peacock
In Rocky Mount, North Carolina, on June 20, 1948, he was once born. When Ken retired from his position as Chancellor of Appalachian State University in 2014, he was once a member of the Clemmons United Methodist Church.
Ken attended Mars Hill University to finish his undergraduate studies as a first-generation faculty student. Prior to attending Louisiana State University for his master’s and doctorate in accounting, he began his accounting career at Price Waterhouse in Winston-Salem.
Before arriving in Boone in 1983 to join the Appalachian State University community, he first joined the University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce.
In 2007, Ken advanced the ACCESS program (Appalachian Commitment to a College Education for Student Success) to offer first-generation, low-income faculty scholars from North Carolina a four-year, debt-free Appalachian education.
A invaluable legacy of Ken’s commitment to students and their success in the classroom and beyond is this program.
