The premise of Bushwick is a whole nightmare scenario: A Texas army power invades the hip Brooklyn community in an attempt to secede from the United States. Civil war ensues. While the film turns out utterly far-removed from reality, it is also oddly metaphorical of this previous election cycle—and that turned into transparent when it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this past weekend, at the same evening as the Women's March on Washington.

The story follows 20-year-old Lucy (Brittany Snow), who emerges from the subway to search out the area surrounding her home below assault, and an ex-marine Stupe (Guardian of the Galaxy's Dave Bautista) who helps her traverse 5 town blocks to safety. "It's about the importance of resilience," Snow mentioned after the screening. "Lucy ultimately understands what she wants to achieve and finds the strength to stand up for herself." Here, Snow talks more about her position, the election, and Brooklyn hipsters.

What drew you to the challenge? It's a big departure from Pitch Perfect.

It used to be a mixture of items. I actually wanted to play a character that integrated a lot of action but also had an arc. From starting to finish, we see this lady cross from being naive and weak to figuring out that, in instances of conflict or violence, you have to pick out whether you're going to get up and struggle for your self and others, or lay down and let it happen.

The plot turns out oddly pertinent given the current political local weather.

When we have been filming a year in the past, Trump wasn't even just about the place he's now. I believe the film truly raises the conversation of what happens when folks attempt to divide a society. You need to get up for what is right and what you imagine in, but the use of violence and segregation never ends smartly.

Did you have to teach exhausting for the role?

There in reality was no training [laughs]. But Lucy is not a fighter—she does not understand how to make use of a gun—and I sought after to be sure that used to be obvious. I hate motion pictures where a girl is passed a gun who's never shot sooner than in her existence and hastily she miraculously is aware of easy methods to use it. I actually got lovely injured on set. I'm one of those people that uses my adrenaline a lot, and I in point of fact went for it in one scene and smashed my rib right into a automobile and bruised it so badly that I could not walk.

Had you ever spent time in Bushwick previous to filming?

Not really, but when I used to be dwelling there, I went full way. I went to the entire coffee retail outlets, the vegan bakeries, the independent bookstores. I envy most hipsters, as a result of I love all the identical issues, but I don't essentially seem like I do.

What can we expect from Pitch Perfect 3?

The script is truly humorous. Everyone is on board and fascinated with it. Every time we do a movie, it's so amusing, because I get to hang around with my best possible friends every day and receives a commission to sing and dance. Kelley [Jackle] was once my roommate for 3 years, I was in Anna [Camp]'s marriage ceremony, [Anna] Kendrick and I are super close. They're on the Falcons-Packers game at this time sending footage to make me jealous. I'm very Chloe-esque in that I'm the event planner. I'm putting in place a birthday celebration for us subsequent weekend as we speak.

Have you thought about doing Broadway?

I would care to do theater. Part of what attracted me to Bushwick is that it is something I hadn't finished earlier than. The idea of having one take is tremendous authentic and interesting to me—it brings one of the most best possible performances since you do not have time to overthink it.
